Enter our contest

ARTISTS and photographers are being encouraged to put a historic estate in the frame . . . The Friends of Kinneil is organising an art and photography contest to gather local people’s impressions of Kinneil Estate in Bo’ness.

Chairwoman Lynn Munro said: “We’re looking to find the best photographs and paintings of this impressive parkland. It could a picture of a building, the park’s fabulous natural history – or of friends and family just enjoying the open space at Kinneil.

“Our only real stipulation is that the pictures must be created in the park itself within the past five years.”

The Friends – which became a registered Scottish charity earlier this summer – are distributing entry forms through Lynn’s shop, Country Fayre in South Street, Bo’ness. Forms can also be downloaded from the Kinneil website – www.kinneil.org.uk – or by emailing: info@kinneil.org.uk

Said Lynn: “We’ve lined up gift vouchers, art and photography sets and Historic Scotland memberships for prizewinners. The competition is free to enter and we hope we get lots of good entries.

“We hope to exhibit the best entries later this year.”

The Friends was formed in 2006 to campaign to save Kinneil Museum from the axe. The group went on to support increased public openings at neighbouring Kinneil House and produce postcards and other materials to promote the historic estate.

“Kinneil is a fantastic park,” said Lynn. “Bo’ness is really lucky to have such a great asset and we want more people to know what an exciting place this is.

“We’re working with Historic Scotland to re-open Kinneil House next month. Open days like these are always popular, and we’re indebted to our members who act as volunteer guides showing people around the House.”

The closing date for entries is now September 23, 2007
