Extra week to enter contest

PHOTOGRAPHERS have been given an extra week to put a historical estate in the picture.  The Friends of Kinneil has extended its art and photography competition by a further week to encourage a last flurry of entries.

Chairwoman Lynn Munro: “We’ve had some impressive entries so far, but we’d like to see more submissions. “You don’t need to be in a camera club to enter. If you have a good picture of Kinneil we want to see it.”

The group is offering Historic Scotland passes, art kits and gift vouchers as prizes in the contest. You can download details and entry forms from the website http://www.kinneil.org.uk – or by calling into Lynn’s shop, Country Fayre in South Street, Bo’ness.

The new closing date is September 23, 2007. Lynn said: “We’re looking to find the best photographs and paintings of Kinneil Estate. It could a picture of a building, the park’s fabulous natural history – or of friends and family just enjoying the open space at Kinneil.

“Our only real stipulation is that the pictures must be created in the park itself within the past five years.” The Friends – which became a registered Scottish charity earlier this summer – was formed in 2006 to campaign to save Kinneil Museum from the axe.

The group went on to support increased public openings at neighbouring Kinneil House and produce postcards and other materials to promote the historic estate. Volunteers will be on hand to help open up the House again on September 22 and 23.

Admission will be free of charge.

“Kinneil is a fantastic park,” said Lynn. “Bo’ness is really lucky to have such a great asset and we want more people to know what an exciting place this is. “Open days like these are always popular, and we’re indebted to our members who act as volunteer guides showing people around the House.”
