HISTORY fans are getting a chance to walk back time.

A free guided walk through Kinneil Estate in Bo’ness – which boasts a Roman fortlet, medieval church and 15th century mansion – is taking place on Sunday, July 25.

Author and historian Ian Scott, from Falkirk Local History Society, will tour the impressive parkland and tell visitors about Kinneil’s fascinating history. The event will end with a guided tour inside Kinneil House. Anyone interested just has to turn up. Meet at Kinneil Museum at 1.30 p.m. for a 1.45 p.m. start.

The event has been organised by the charity The Friends of Kinneil with the support of Historic Scotland.

A Friends spokesman said: “We ran a similar event last year and it was very successful. Despite some early drizzle at the start, people came out in force to hear about Kinneil’s fantastic history.

“This year the walk is boosted with a tour inside Kinneil House, which is normally closed at this time of year. If you want to discover some local history – or have a look inside the House – just come along to the estate on Sunday, July 25. The event is free of charge.”

The spokesman added: “The walk should be suitable for all ages – although the tour inside the House involves a climb up stairs. Please wear sensible walking shoes and suitable clothing.”
