Book now to go on free bat walk at Kinneil

lesley-sweeney-with-bat1Nature fans are being given the chance to get up-close and personal with bats in Kinneil Estate, Bo’ness.

A special “Bat Walk” has been organised for Friday, May 15.

Organisers were this week encouraging anyone interested to book free places via this link

The nocturnal trek will come at the end of an evening of events as part of the national Festival of Museums and Museums at Night celebrations and the local Nature Fest.

Kinneil Museum will be opening its doors from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 15. There will be goody bags, a quiz and a chance to see the newly-refurbished museum.

The impressive Kinneil House – boasting fantastic renaissance wall paintings – will also be open for the first hour (from 6-7 p.m.) for free tours.

The event has been organised by the charity The Friends of Kinneil, working with Falkirk Community Trust, Historic Scotland and Falkirk Council.

A Friends spokesman said: “The House and Museum evening on May 15 is open to everyone. We hope lots of people will come along.

“However, we’re having to limit places on the Bat Walk – the final part of the evening – to just 40 people. You’ll get a guided nature walk through the estate and then look for bats at dusk. If you’re interested in going on the walk – book through our website at www.kinneil.org.uk … If you’re having problems booking, you can also call 01506 823714.”

The spokesman added: “We’re grateful to Falkirk Council ranger Lesley Sweeney for leading the walk. Hopefully the wee fellows come out and entertain the walkers. They usually don’t disappoint!”
