Walk the Way on April 22

IMG_6988Walkers are being encouraged to explore the John Muir Way this April with a 12 mile round-trip walk between two historic buildings.

The Friends of Kinneil charity is leading a walk from historic Kinneil House in Bo’ness to imposing Blackness Castle (and back).

The trek – six miles each way – will leave from outside Kinneil Museum (beside Kinneil House) at 1.00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017. (The museum will be open from 12.30 p.m.)

A spokesperson said: “The event has been organised to co-incide with the third anniversary of the opening of the John Muir Way, the coast-to-coast route which runs past both buildings.

“This is a great opportunity to explore a fantastic part of route. We’ll leave Kinneil around 1.00 p.m. and then walk along the route through Kinneil Nature Reserve, and then past the historic Bo’ness Harbour.

“We’ll continue along new paths at Bridgeness to the beach at Carriden, through the woodland and onto the new John Muir Way path leading to Blackness. It’s about six miles to Blackness and should take two hours or so.

“After a stop at Blackness Castle for food and toilets, we’ll then walk back to Bo’ness, back along the same route. The whole walk should take around 4-5 hours in total. Walkers are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and take a drink and snack with them.

“Children are welcome but should be accompanied by an adult. Sadly, walkers can’t bring dogs.

“There’s no need to book your place, just turn up. Join us for all of the walk, or part of it.”
